1969 Shelby GT 500 with 1,403 original miles.
This Shelby is an incredible find. You might recognize it from the article and photo shoot in Cars and Parts magazine written by Bob Stevens in the late 1980’s. It was sold new at Alderman’s Ford in Indianapolis IN to Tom Mattingly with intention to run Super Stock Ford Automatic. Along with his mechanic Jeff Yeager which formed Y & M automotive. The car traded hands and made its way to California in the early 70’s and still retains its 1973 California pink slip that matches its California 1973 plates. It was last registered in 1979 and it has basically been in storage with “non-operation permit dated in 1974. It was sold again and repainted in the mid 80’s by the third owner to tame the car down from it’s originally glory of turning in sub 12 second quarter miles. The last owner who bought it around 1986 returned the stickers in the late 80’s and simply trailed it to the occasional car show.
The underside (with the exception of added white paint) is untouched, the interior is all original, still has chalk assembly marking in the fender wells. The cross over exhaust was installed by the first owner and has never been removed. There is no way to run mufflers on the car as it sits. To change the headers the motor will need to be lifted up and or out of the car. Because of this the car has never driven
around on the street. The motor fires effortlessly every time with good oil pressure. No noticeable leaks or over heating problems.
When picking it up from the previous owner he mentioned the car was at an all Ford show when he put the car in its spot the odometer read 1,320 miles the exact number of feet this snake was breed for.
